NCDC opens new COVID-19 laboratory in Anambra

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control says it has opened one new COVID-19 testing laboratory in the country.

The agency made this known via its official Twitter handle @NCDCgov.

The new laboratory is located at the General Hospital Onitsha, Anambra, bringing the number of COVID-19 testing laboratories to 63 in Nigeria.

The agency tweeted: “We are pleased to announce the inclusion of the General Hospital Onitsha, Anambra to the NCDC Molecular Laboratory Network.

“There are currently 63 laboratories with the capacity to test for #COVID19 in the #NCDCLabNetwork.”

Meanwhile, the NCDC had reiterated that COVID-19 tests conducted in facilities within its molecular laboratory network are free.

NCDC had said, “Kindly note that COVID-19 tests conducted in facilities within the NCDC molecular laboratory network are free of charge.”

The centre listed the laboratories to include two at the State Specialist Hospital, Amachara in Abia State; Federal Medical Centre, Yola, Adamawa; Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, Akwa Ibom State; Accunalysis Medical Diagnostics, Anambra; COOUTH Awka Abbott Laboratory; Bauchi State Reference Laboratory, Bauchi; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital; 161 AHM Laboratory, Benue; and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Borno.

In Lagos, there are Virology Lagos University Teaching Hospital; Nigeria Institute for Medical Research; Biosafety Level-3 Laboratory; 54gene Lagos; and the NCDC Central Public Health Laboratory.

In Abuja, there is the NCDC National Reference Laboratory;54gene; State House Annex Clinic Laboratory; and United Nations IOM Laboratory.
