Nigeria Professional Football League club, Nasarawa United, have rested the No. 20 jersey worn by late defender, Chineme Martins, for the 2020/21 season.
Martins, 23, died after he slumped in Nasarawa’s match-day 23 fixture against Katsina United at the Lafia City Stadium March 8.
The club announced the decision in a statement signed by the media officer, Eche Amos, on Thursday.
“As a mark of respect to our departed colleague and player, Chineme Martins, who died in the course of meritorious service to the club, management has decided to rest his jersey number ‘20’ for the whole of the 2020/21 League Season,” the statement quoted Nasarawa chairman, Isaac Danladi, as saying.
